Manufacturing a Fully Automated Packaging System for the Vinyl Siding Industry

Manufacturing a Fully Automated Packaging System for the Vinyl Siding Industry

K-Ter Imagineering Inc. constructed this fully automated packaging system for vinyl siding. We are justifiably proud of this packaging system, it is the first of its kind capable of a production rate of 60 boxes of vinyl siding per hour. The fully automated inspection and packaging system slashes labor costs, boosts quality and increases packaging speed because it automates every aspect of the inspection and packaging process. For example, it separates out, rejects and removes the defective parts. It counts the siding pieces and stacks the siding panels in nested stacks prior to placing them in the boxes, which it then closes and seals with hot-melt glue. After applying the labels, the automated packaging system stacks and palletizes the ...
Custom Fabricated Packaging Machinery

Custom Fabricated Packaging Machinery

K-Ter Imagineering Inc. custom designed this ice cream bucket assembly machine, then leveraged our metal manufacturing skills to produce the prototype and five production units. The customer had larger machines for assembling three-gallon paper ice cream containers, but needed a smaller version that is mobile, and fits through a standard 36" door. We designed an all new machine that features a two-station indexer, an innovative new clamping system, as well as a simple integrated part ejector. For service purposes, it integrates many of the parts that are also common to much larger machines. At the first station, the operator can load the parts, while at the second station, a sleeve is simultaneously pressed into the lip-ring while ...
Custom Packaging Machinery/Ring Stacking Machine

Custom Packaging Machinery/Ring Stacking Machine

Our customer injection molds plastic rings that are about 12" in diameter. The rings are a food grade plastic used as edging on round food containers. If they just pile the rings in a box, they get deformed, so they needed a machine that could stack them in a neat column and then secure them with a sleeve of heat shrink plastic. Packaged this way, the rings arrive undamaged and their customer can load the rings into their machine easily. We designed and built a machine that automatically stacks the rings on mandrels. There are four pairs of mandrels, mounted on an indexing table, so when two stacks are completed, the machine indexes to start the next two columns of rings. An operator slips a tube of heat shrink material over the two ...
Custom Trim Chopping Machine

Custom Trim Chopping Machine

A producer of Acrylic sheet saw the Rotary Scrap Cutter that we offer to the vinyl siding industry on our web site and called us to see if it could be used to chop up the scrap material that they cut off the edges of the Acrylic sheet stock that they produce. Unfortunately, the standard machine was not suitable, so we decided to design and build a custom machine for the application. The edge trimmings can range in thickness anywhere from 1/16" up to 1/2" and be anywhere from one to fifteen inches wide. The thinner the sheet the faster it runs. Their operators struggled to keep up when they had to handle the edge trimmings by hand and because of the wide variety of lengths they had trouble storing the scrap. They also had difficulty ...
Custom Fabricated Pierce and Form Machine

Custom Fabricated Pierce and Form Machine

A customer came to us with a part, shaped like the letter 'U', that they needed to be formed from a flat strip. They wanted two machines, one to form the blank into the U shape and another to punch the holes and bend the end of one side. The challenge with the first machine was to make it capable of forming three different material sizes. The different material sizes responded to forming differently, so the mandrels used had to be different sizes and the process of changing the machine over needed to be quick. Using color coded parts that changed out as an assembly, we were able to make it quick and easy for the operator to change. The second machine needed to punch two holes in one side, a single hole in the other side and bend the end of ...
